OFF ROADING! WOOHOO! This adventure started last summer when Jami and Cat decided to go up the 4 wheel drive trail to the top of Coyote Mountain (**** alt) but couldnt find the trail, no matter how many topos they studied over! They finally got a clue this time around and asked at the ranger station! Lo and behold, A FLYER WITH DIRECTIONS! Who knew it would be that easy!
This adventure we took two cars, Jami, me, Skye, and Pepper in the Jami's jeep and Cat, Scotty and Keith in the Godzuki. Actually, I spent most of the trip up and down the mountain running up ahead.
Salty Peterson's mine is up here and Cat had been wanting to check it out for awhile. We found it but the shaft is collasped. Cat and I climbed down in and went as far as we could but there wasnt much to see except an old ore shaft. Cat, Jami, Keith and Scotty searched for garnets, epidote and quartz crystals while Skye, Pepper and I played in the creek. Scotty found some really killer samples!
On the way home Kieth spotted the ruins of Salty Peterson's mill, although there wasnt much of it. I had a good time because a rabbit decided to play hide and seek with me here! I just love rabbits!
We had lunch up at Coyote Lake and also drove to the other end of Coyote Mountain, even when the road was hardly a road at all! The scenery was AWESOME!
We're planning on heading back up here before the snow falls this coming winter, gotta check out the Coyote Flats area more and do some camping as well!
THE ROAD UP WAS PRETTY DECENT!
