GOLD POINT, NEVADA

Goldpoint is a semi-ghost, there are two to four full time residents. Unless you count Herb and Sandy! Herb lives/works/restores Gold Point, or at least the cabins he owns, and is in residence about 6 months out of the year. When you meet him and Sandy (you'll know them by their smiles) tell them Cat and Ripley say hello!

Herb, or Sheriff Stone to some, has done some fantastic restoration work on a majority of the town. He keeps the outsides in a state of arrested disrepair but fixes up the insides so they're hospitable.

There are LOTS of old buildings and structures to explore, both in the townsite and around the general area. And, we were told by Herb, that there are miles and miles of underground mine tunnels as well! One of these days he's promised us a tour of them, the short tour being about 5 hours!

Dont let these signs scare you off, not EVERYTHING is off limits. For instance, you dont see "No critter chasing!" or "No dogs!". This is definitely a dog friendly ghost town, infact, the friendliest all around ghost town we've ever visited!

Herb has also done a fantastic job on one of the buildings and made it into a bar, including stage, old time piano, pool table and room for dancing! When I was there this past Memorial Day weekend they had country music every night and one night Wyatt Earp stopped by and did a show!

Thats right! Wyatt Earp! He's the great grand nephew of THE Wyatt Earp and he's an actor that does one man shows. For us he did Doc Holliday and it was fantastic! His wife did a show for us too, Big Nose Kate. It was really wonderful! We finished the night out with some country music and lots of chatter!

We camped at this cabin just outside of the Gold Point Town limits. The ceiling was lined with newspapers from 1917 declaring the beginning of World War 1!
It was such a great spot! We were surrounded by Jushua trees and amazing scenery!
And the place was simply crawling with lizards and jackrabbits! I had such a fun time trying to catch them all! Dog heaven!!!
